Sedimentary Rock Group

Sedimentary Rock Group:

Directions: Add your answers to each question below.

1. How are sedimentary rocks formed?

2. What are some examples of sedimentary rock?

3. What are some of the ways humans have used sedimentary rocks?

Self-Reflection: What is one thing you learned about Sedimentary rock that you did not know before this activity? Did you enjoy the activity? Was it easier or more difficult working in groups? Add any other comments you would like.

24 comments:

  1. 1. Sediments are little pieces that form sedimentary rocks. Sediments are carried by ice, water, and wind. They are carried into the ocean and they are pressed together. They are stacked on top of each other sqeezing out the water and air. Then, in a while they are sedimentary rocks.

    2. There are 3 types of sedimentary rocks. There are Classtic, Biogenic/Chemical and Lithification.

    3. Sedimentary have been used by drinking water out of them. The oil they have inside had been used for heating houses.

Self Reflection: I learned that there are different kinds of sedimentary rocks. I also learned that they can be used in different ways depending on the type they are. They are formed of little pieces called sediments. The last thing I learned was how these rocks were formed by nature itself. This activity was hard, but still excitng. I would say I enjoed this project. This project would've been harder doing it myself. Without my partner, I wouldn't have learned that much. This project was very exciting and I thank Mr.Dunlap for the project!

  2. 1.Sedimentary Rocks that are clastic from together by proccess which break down by other rocks in pebbles, sand, or clay particals by exposure to wind, ice, and water.in the water lots of elements are dissolving in the water the elements the rock are all forming.the bottem layer is the oldest and the top layer is the newest of all the layers all the top squeezzez out the water of the bottom layer. some rocks have layers insicnt or many not show any layers at all.conglomerate rock is formed from larger rocks.maybe made up of rounded pebbles or even boulders.they are junckey.
2.shall,limestone, bitumoinous, and sandstone.and earth is the largest rock.any rock that is on earth surface is a sedimantery rock.they are many sedimanterry rocks formed.lime stone is uslay white.
3.limestone is use to make chalk, shall is sometimes used for making pottery, and bitumoinous is use as coal as source of energy.
self-relfiection:i learned that sedimentary rocks contain fossils that tell us about plants and animals.and sedimentary rocks can be hard or soft.i enjoy the assiment cause it was fun and alot of prosses.i think it was easy working in groups cause we got all off our notes and chose the one that maked more sens and worked with the sedimentary rocks.

  3. 1.Sedimentary rocks are formed by tiny particles that are called sediments. They are also, formed out of pebble, sand, clay, and particles exposure to wind, ice and water. There are some nonlistic rock's that are kind of made out of the same thing like they are made out of fossils, chemical, reactions, chiefly in the ocean. Clastic and nonlistic rock's are like the only members of the family that have fossils.

2.These are some examples of sedimentary rocks. There are rocks that are called fossils. These rocks are just like sedimentary rocks but these have a fish, dinosaur, trees as bones.

3.Some humans use sedimentary rocks for collections,or to keep them. They can also, like sale them. They sell them like if they were gold.People even think they can sell them for a fortune.

Self Reflection: I never new that sedimentary rocks were like the only members in the family. Also,I never new that there used to be nonlistic and clastic sedimentary rocks. I enjoyed the activity because we got to learn about the cool rocks. Also, the rocks that we were looking for infomation those rocks were intertaining. It was easy doing it in groups because you get gather information and you get to use all that information for the rock.

  4. 1. Sedimentary Rocks form together by process which break down by other rocks in pebbles, sand, or clay particles by exposure to wind, ice and water. As they find there way through the water rivers, lakes, and the ocean the layers get on top of each other. Layers keep forming for a billion of years. In the water lots of elements are dissolving the elements are forming into rocks. When dissolving the elements move by water then they get cemented together and turn into a rock. The bottom layer is the oldest and the top layer is the newest of the layers because the elements get cemented time by time and one layer was there before the other layers got cemented. The top layer squeezes out the water of the rock. The top layer squeeze the water by the force of water on the layer then the top layer starts squeezing water of the bottom layers . As the layers get cemented in the water some minerals may get out. Some rocks could get layers instinct or may not show any layers at all.

    2. There are many kinds of Sedimentary Rocks that are formed in our earth. There are limestone, sandstone, shale, and conglomerate.Limestone holds shells and bones from animals. Sandstone often have cementing material iron oxide, red stains. Conglomerate Rocks are chunky because they are made up of pebbles and natural cements.

    3. There are some ways humans use Sedimentary Rocks. Such as limestone it can be for chalk which children can play with. Shale is part of the Sedimentary Rocks they can be used as bricks, potteries, and to build china. There a rock it is coal it can be used to heat our homes and make electricity. Sandstone can be used for glass production and construction. Humans can use Sedimentary Rocks in any way.

Self-Reflection: Before this activity I never knew that chalk was made by limestone and that Sedimentary Rocks form underwater when the top layer squeezes water from the bottom layers. I really enjoyed the activity because I got to take notes and watch videos then we got to answer the questions. This activity was enjoyable because it was much better than reading a chapter in our Science Text Book and then answer ten questions. This activity was much easier with groups we got to make ideas with my group instead of me thinking ideas myself. Also, we got work done faster because we were separated in groups and did the work together. I think this was a wonderful activity because I got to remember better.

  5. 1.Sedimentary rocks are formed by tiny broken pieces of other rocks.
The broken pieces from rocks are called sediment.
Even the dust on your furniture can be sediment.
Other sediments would be bits of plants, bones and shells.
Some sediments are tiny particles of rocks and minerals.
Sedimentary rocks are rocks that form from sediments that become pressed together in layers.

2.There are three types of Sedimentary rocks.
    There are Classtic,Biogenic/Chemical and Lithification.
Limestone is another type of sedimentary.
It is usually white and it usually forms at the bottom of the ocean.

    3. Some sedimentary rocks can hold water for drinking oil.
Also some people use sedimentary rocks for heating houses.

    Self Reflection
Self Reflection 1.I learned a lot of things in this project like,Sedimentary rocks can hold fossils.
Also,Sedimentary rocks are rocks that form from sediments that become pressed together in layers.
And like,The rock cycle is one of the largest cycle on earth.
Also, Sedimentary rocks can hold fossils.
And the last thing is,Over long ago new layers of sediment are carried and
dropped on top of older layers.

Self Reflection 2. I enjoyed the activity because I've learned a lot about rocks that I did not know before.

Self Reflection 3.It was easier working in groups because if your stuck you can rely on your partner to help you.And if your behind they can help you.

Comments-Sedimentary rocks are very interesting and fascinating.

    3. There are some ways humans use the sedimentary rocks like using limestone for chalk for children to play with on chalkboards or on the floor . Also there is another chalk that adults use for ants that have fear from.Shale is used for bricks, potteries, and to build china.

4.Self-Reflection: One thing I learned about sedimentary rocks that I didn't know before is that Sedimentary Rocks use limestone for chalk that children could play with and a different chalk for adults. They use a chalk that ants have fear from. I liked this activity because I wanted to learn more about rocks and because we worked in our groups and it is more easier because in our groups we work together and we got more idea's about rocks.

  7. 1.Sedimentary rocks are formed by tiny particles that are called sediment. They are also formed out of pebble, sand, clay, and particles exposure to wind, ice, and water.By looking at sedimentary rocks of different ages, scientists can figure out how climate and environments have changed through earth's history.

2.These are some examples of other types of rocks. There are rocks that are called fossils. These rocks are just like sedimentary rocks, but these have a fish, dinosaur, and trees as bones.

3.some people use sedimentary rocks for collections or to make a fortune. They also, sale them like if they were gold.Humans can also keep them as jewlery.

Self Reflection:I learned how sedimentary rocks were formed. They were formed by wind, rain, snow, and ice.I enjoyed the activity because you got to get alot of information and you could share it with your class. It was easy working in groups because you can get alot of information and put it together.

  8. 1. Sedimentary rocks are formed when three parts from the earth's surface but Sedimentary rock are formed when there pieces of sand go inside together to create a Sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks are better when they form together to create a bigger Sedimentary rock.

    2. Some examples of Sedimentary rock are called Limestone & Gypsum rocks for the Nonelastic Sedimentary rocks. And for the clastic Sedimentary rocks are called Shale,Sandstone,Breccias and Conglomerate. And there are examples of my Sedimentary rock. And also there is more like grit, halite & Gypsum.

    3. Sedimentary rocks are used to tell the earth surface in the geologic past. In Ancient times they used Sedimentary rocks like weapons. And sometimes they would use Sedimentary rocks for weapons like they would use daggers & axe and also arowheads. Some Sedimentary are used for rubbing feet, dishes & also for cloths.

Self reflection: I think that this project would had difficult if we did not have any partner to help us in this project. This project is fun because we could listen to the videos and also learn more about rocks because there are many kinds of igneous rocks and also metamorphic rocks. This is the best project I ever had of the school year plus this is so exiting at first but then at last it felt amazing. And I learned that Sedimentary rocks are formed when sand comes together to make a Sedimentary rock. And also I learned that a Sedimentary rock turn into a igneous rock or a metamorphic.

  9. 1.sedimentary rocks are formed old bones like dinosaur bones.Plus formed by old plants and seashells. And old bits of other old rocks.Plus for more then a thousand sand can turn into some sedimentary rock. And formed by platen

2.For example Limestone is a sedimentary rock and Sandstone is a sedimentary rock. Also gyspum and halite, grit.Plus Breccia and Conglomerate,Flint. Then there`s Clay and Calcareous Tufa.

3.sedimentary rock are used to tell the earth surface in the geologic past.Sedimentary rock is used to rub feet and cloths. In ancient times sedimentary rock was used as arrowheads and daggers, axe.

self reflection.I learned that flint in ancient times was used as weapons and tools. And I learned that sedimentary rocks are used to tell the geologic past. And I learned that some tips of crystals are sedimentary rocks.Yes I did enjoy the activity because I got to go to different websites and learn about my rock.It would be harder to do do this by my self because what if I got confused and Mr.Dunlap was helping somebody and so was Mr.Cross there would be nobody to help me.

But with a partner he could help me.

  10. Raneem you did a good job explaining sedimentary rocks
    &
and you also did a good job at explaining how sedimentary rocks are formed

  11. Dear Chris,
On your Self Reflection, 1st answer, and 3rd answer, you didn't capitalize the 1st words.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Jose,
you could add alot of information in the first 1 and you spelled Clastic wrong and enjoyed wrong to.but the rest looks good.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Diana your comment was okay but on the third comment you could have put more information. On how people use sedamentary rocks and what they use it for.The other comments were great. Great job!

  14. Chris,
You did a good job but number 1. didn't make sense alot. You also could of added more information for number 1. 2. and 3. with your partner of how u use the rocks and how they were there formed.

  15. Jocelyn,
You did a great job and it made sense.I wanted to tell you that number one should be the process of how the rock is formed. On number three maybe you could say the first sentence a little better, such as some sedimentary rocks can hold water for drinks and oil for gas. You even could of added more for number three like, what is limestone used for and what is shale for and many other kind of rocks that humans can use it. It was easy to understand your answers and they were clear with not much mistakes.

  16. 1. sedimentary rocks are formed by little particles of other rock. rocks are called sediment and it is about three qaurters of the earth surface.
    2. a sandstone is a sedimentary rock .and a shall is a sedimentary. rock and also a conglomerate'halit'grit'shelly'clay'and'redstone.

3.the humams used sedimentary rocks for axese .and flint dagger and hafted adzes. and obsidan for safty to fight when something goes wrong.

  24. Dear Malik,
Maybe you could of added more. Also you spelled words wrong. The sentences had no capitalization. I think Your sentences didn't make so much sense.
    Sincerely,

    Raneem
